The Wall
I finally crossed the Kaibab/Grainway Barrens traveling south from Gaia where I had managed to gear up. Luckily for me, they didn't know I was a Tech. I thought they might ask some questions when I offered to trade Centex for rations. It was all I had left. They didn't.
Crossing the Barrens was brutal. They certainly don't call it the Barrens because there's lots to see and do there.
After traveling for what seemed like days, I finally saw something on the horizon. I thought all the heat was finally going to my head and that it must be a mirage, but still I hoped it wasn't.
As I got closer, I knew it wasn't. It was The Wall, a massively huge wall separating the Kaibab/ Grainway Barrens from Sector 4.
The Wall is filled with turrets and lookout positions, seemingly abandoned, and there is a single entrance in and out of the sector, a foreboding entranceway locked with LED lights scrolling 'Quarantine'. The question I ponder "Is the Quarantine zone meant to keep something in or to keep us out? Who is actually the one being quarantined?
What exactly is in Sector 4? I didn't find any way to scale the wall. It's too huge and I didn't see a single person, but the lights are all on... there is power in there. Without any way in, I'll turn back tomorrow crossing that desolate wasteland back to 'civilization'. Ha!
I wonder if this is where the Outsiders come from?
Occasionally, Riders have run into people in containment suits. These folks are always carrying high-tech gear, driving vehicles, and asking a lot of questions. They’re most commonly found around large towns and abandoned high-tech facilities.
They never talk about who they are or where they’re from; instead they just ask questions about life in the Province. They tend to shoot first and poke the corpses for answers later.
What kind of technology lies behind the wall? Does life go on there as if the Fall didn't happen? Is it the last remaining paradise on Earth?
Something tells me it isn't. Something tells me it's just more horrors in another level of Hell.
